• Example 1:
  • 2/2/21 – Called the National Careers Service (0800 100 900) and went straight through to a lady from the South East. Asked basic questions (name, address, email, phone) and offered an overview of the service. I asked for a ‘Skills Transfer Analysis’ and she wasn’t so sure what it meant, so I mentioned Aviation Insider and hoping to get into further training and she set me up an appt for 19/02/2021. Received an email confirmation whilst on the phone.
  • 5/2/21 – Clicked through my confirmation email and followed the link to the Skills Assessment Quiz – personality traits that you decide your level of agreeance. I emailed myself a copy of the results. Took 5 minutes. Then looked at the Skills Health Check – Choosing from statements those which relate to you the most. Took 15 minutes.
  • 19/2/21 – Short 8 minute call with a lady (Careers Advisor). We went through more basic personal information and she asked me a few questions about where I want to do my training and if I had found a school/ training provider. She explained there may be a couple of sources/charities funding one may qualify for. She followed up with an email an hour later asking if I had applied to the Air Pilots FI scholarship, and asked me to qualify more about the Nottingham offer I had (CFS based at Notts airport, operations/admin role at the DTO with sponsored FI rating – fell through in late December due to Covid).
  • 24/2/21 – Reply from the careers advisor asking ‘what level is the qualification’, as she could not find this out, only the entry requirements and costs. After contact with Aviation insider, we decided to offer her Aviation Insiders’ phone number & email to help the process.

Example 2:

  • Emailed the DWP and asked to be put in touch with my local job center, in order to apply for the RRS/LVP grant. (CONTACT-.DWP1@DWP.GOV.UK)
  • They asked for some personal details and then put me in touch with the local job center.
  • As an experienced TKI and airline pilot, who was recently made redundant, I applied for a SEP revalidation and FI rating .
  • Was given some forms to fill out, including the LVP application and some correspondence over and back with the jobcenter. Sent the required docs back, along with some supporting info such as the redundancy letter and proof of my qualifications.
  • Then just waited for an answer.
